Fatal Hunt by Michelle Godard-Richer

A Mafia threat driven by revenge, targets hiding out with new identities, and a former FBI agent who will do whatever it takes to protect his family. What’s not to love? This is my kind of story. Fatal Hunt is a fast-paced crime thriller that will keep you glued to the book.

Being married to a man who once infiltrated the Kansas City mob as an undercover agent brings danger to Jessica and her children. She knows only the loving husband, not the man who did terrible things that haunt him. Both the main characters have baggage that makes them relatable and likeable. Jon’s history and what happened to his first wife, along with Jessica’s loss of her first husband and the repercussions of her son’s kidnapping, make the current threat from mob boss Hugh Jones all the more frightening. Added to that is the suspicion that someone on their team is a traitor. The suspense ramps up as Jon and Jessica find someone is always one step ahead of them, hunting them wherever they run.

Strong secondary characters support Jon and Jess as they fight back against the threat posed by Hugh Jones and his team of henchmen. Several other characters had suspect motivations and made me wonder whether they could be trusted. The multi-faceted personalities drive the plot and kept me guessing.

I also enjoyed the romantic aspect of the loving family and the theme of love vs. the evil in the characters’ lives. A bit of paranormal activity lends itself well to the notion that someone is watching over them in this battle.

With a shocking ending, it’s clear there is much more in store for Jon and Jess. Looking forward to the next book(s) in the series!
